Questions for Staying on Track in 2009

From my colleague David Mead on strategy for 2009

WHAT KEEPS YOU AWAKE AT NIGHT?

1.  Is my company too passive?  Are we missing opportunities? Am I spending too much time being internally focused? Is it time to take control and chart a new strategic direction for the business? If so, what is it?

2. How do I grow? Where do I find new growth…new profitable growth?

3.  How do we prepare for the next downturn? What should we be doing NOW?

4.  How can I differentiate our products and company? How can I gain a real advantage over the competition?

5.  Do I have the right people in place?  How do I put and keep the “right people in the right seats on my bus?”

6. How do I get my managers and employees all going in the right direction?

7.  Where will I find the time to develop new ideas, new products, new sources of revenue?

8.  When is the right time to sell? What are my exit alternatives? How do I maintain my lifestyle if I choose to exit the business? What do I need to do to be prepared to sell?  Can I take some of my chips off the table and still stay involved? I want to have a more balanced life.

9.  We’ve made great progress getting to this point …How we do take this business to the next level?

10. What should I be doing that I don’t see?
